Wordpress (wordpress.org) is a great application which makes short work of creating a very functional website application.  We say “application” because Wordpress makes it easy to update and maintain your website without any knowledge of web programming of any kind.  Wordpress also makes it possible to choose from a wide variety of free “themes” which alter the look and feel of your website.

Why use Wordpress?

Because all of the hard work is already done.  Search engine optimization (SEO) is already taken care of, each page on your wordpress website has been coded to get you the maximum amount of traffic from search engines.

Wordpress also has a huge community that offers extensions (or plug-ins) that enhance the basic functionality of the website.  This community offers lots of information on the usage and optimization of the application.

How do I install Wordpress on my server?

Simple.  Just login to your account at One Website Solution, choose “hosting” from the side menu and launch you hosting control panel.

At the top of the control panel you see this:

Click on the Your Applications button to launch the Value Applications automated application installer.

Next, you need to choose “Blogs” from the side menu and then “Wordpress” to launch the wordpress installer.

This will bring up the one-click Wordpress Install screen.

Just click on “Install Now” and follow the promts for setting up a password for the database and admin login.   Everything else will be install on your server for you, no coding and no hassle.  It usually takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours for the install to complete.  Once it does, it’s show up in your value Applications installer that it’s “installed”.  Then you can visit your website at:  http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin to login to your backend admin area and start creating pages for your site.  It’s super easy and even kinda fun!
